5 days fly in Mgahinga gorilla and Lake Mburo safari : The 5 days fly in Mgahinga gorilla and Lak Mburo safari is an interesting adventure that will take you to Mgahinga gorilla national park which is the smallest national park in southwestern Uganda that is known for harboring the endangered mountain gorillas. Mgahinga gorilla national park is a home of one habituated gorilla family Nyakagezi which is available for trekking on daily basis. During the safari you will also visit Lake Mburo National park where you will be able to view different animals including buffaloes, impalas, waterbucks, elands, topi, bushbucks, warthogs, giraffes, zebras, hippos among others during the game drive and boat cruise.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park
Depending on your location on the first day of the 5 days fly in Mgahinga gorilla and Lake Mburo safari, our driver guide will pick you up from your hotel and transfer to Entebbe international airport for your domestic flight to Mgahinga gorilla national park. Upon arrival at Kisoro airstrip, you will be picked by one of our representatives and transfer to the lodge for relaxation and lunch.
After lunch you will either spend the rest of the day at leisure or go for an optional Batwa trail experience where you will be able to interact with the batwa/ pygmies who used to live in the forest before it was gazetted into a national park. After the Batwa experience, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga gorilla national park
Gorilla trekking
After an early breakfast on the second day of the 5 days fly in Mgahinga gorilla and Lake Mburo safari, you will carry packed lunch and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Ntebeko park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing where you will be told about the rules and regulations to follow during trekking. After the briefing you will start trekking in the forest with an experienced park guide who is well conversant with gorilla trails to follow. Trekking of mountain gorillas in Mgahinga gorilla national park takes about 3 to 6 hours depending on where the gorillas are located because they like to move from one area to another in search of food.
During trekking you will be able to view different bird species, other primates like black and white colobus monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, view different tree and plant species among others. Once the mountain gorillas are found you will be able to spend one hour with them which gives you a chance to observe their habits, lifestyle, watch them feed, breastfeed, groom young ones, take photos and record videos to show people back home after the safari. After the interesting moment with the gentle giants you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will awarded a certificated in participating in gorilla trekking, meet up with your driver guide and transfer back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Mburo national park
After a relaxed breakfast on the third day of the 5 days fly in Mgahinga gorilla and Lake Mburo safari, you will check out of the lodge and your driver guide will pick you up to transfer to Lake Mburo national park. On the way you will enjoy great views the country side, terraced farmlands, Kigezi hills among others and upon arrival, you will check into the lodge and have lunch.
After lunch you will go for an optional afternoon game drive where you will be able to view different animals like buffaloes, zebras, warthogs, giraffes, impalas, elands, waterbucks among others. After the game drive you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise

On the fourth day of the 5 days fly in Mgahinga gorilla and Lake Mburo safari, you will have an early breakfast and meet up with your driver guide to go for a morning game drive in the park where you will be able to view animals when they are most active. During the game drive you will be able to view animals like buffaloes, Uganda kobs, zebras, elands, waterbucks, warthogs, giraffes, impalas, topi, oribi, bush bucks and different bird species. After the game drive you will drive back to the lodge for lunch.
Afternoon boat cruise
After lunch you will go for an interesting boat cruise at Lake Mburo where you will enjoy great views of animals like buffaloes, warthogs, waterbucks among others drinking water along the shores, view hippos and Nile crocodiles in water, water bird species such as the elusive shoebill stork, cormorants, kingfishers, fish eagles, hornbills among others. During the boat cruise which takes about 2 hours you will also be able to view fishermen who will be preparing their fishing gears for night fishing. After the boat cruise you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Departure to Kampala
On the last day of the 5 days fly in Mgahinga gorilla and Lake Mburo safari, you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to start the journey back to Kampala. On the way you will enjoy stunning views of the beautiful scenery, tea plantations and have en-route lunch in Mbarara town where after you will continue with the journey to Kampala arriving early evening. Upon arrival your driver guide will drop you off at Entebbe international airport for your departure flight or drop off at any place of convenience.
