Getting to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park can be easily accessed by several means of transport either by road or by air. And the only easiest way to access the park you must be holding your personnel identity documents that notifies your nationality. Bwindi Impenetrable national park home to mountain gorillas which can be trekked in four forest trailheads of Rushaga, Buhoma, Ruhija and Nkuringo sector, located in the southwestern region of Uganda and can be reached whether by air or road transport.
Traveling by road transport is more attractive with rewardable scenic scenery of landscape though it seems to be a long driving journey. Then to those who prefer short driving distances you can attempt to fly from Entebbe International Airport by Aero Link Airline but by travelling with air transport you tend to miss a lot though you reach in time for activities.
Accessibility
By Road Transport
The park can be reached by road from several directions which include;
Travelling from Kampala or Entebbe through Queen Elizabeth national park passing Mweya –Kihihi –Buhoma Region. This route which passes through Queen Elizabeth national park leads you to Ishasha sector that provides a chance to the tourists to have a stopover and search for the unique tree-climbing lions. From Mweya it takes 160 kilometers to access the park.
Bwindi Impenetrable forest can be accessed from Kampala through Kabale –Kanungu –Buhoma for a driving distance of 5 to 6 hours.
Another route from Kampala pass through Kabale –Nkuringo with a driving of 6 to 7 hours.
Driving direct from Kampala inclusive with stopovers at the Uganda Equator, Igongo cultural center is approximately 9 to 10 hours’ drive.
Air Travel
Please note, all Uganda national parks can be reached by domestic flights and carriers used are Aero Link Uganda, Fly Uganda and Eagle air all offers comfortable sitting pitch leg and applicable for daily flights to protected national parks.
Travelers can fly from Entebbe International Airport or Kampala ‘’Kajjansi Airfield’’ to the modern tarmac airstrip at Kisoro town. Visitors to trek in Buhoma can also use charter flights to Kayonza near Butogota or savannah –Kihihi airstrips.
Domestic flights can be booked by the help of tour operator who can as well arrange for you the pickup from Entebbe Airport, Uganda’s tourist arrival which is located few Kilometers away from Kampala capital of Uganda.
Therefore, it requires travelers to always send in their copy of personnel documents like passports, Visa to verify your identity, these are the easiest ways of bookings or arrangement of domestic flights.

Gorilla trekking is the major done activity in Bwindi come a long with Gorilla habituations, birding as well as Visiting Batwa pygmies. Gorilla trekking is a one hour activity though it may take 30 to 7 hours to locate them ,once you find them one hour is given to spend with gorilla through capturing them and learning about them in a group of 8 people 15 years and above. Gorilla trekking experience goes at fee of USD700 per person per day whereas Gorillas Habituation experience is a full day activity done in a group of four people accompanied by the researchers ,park ranger and once you locate them four hour is given to trekkers to spend with gorillas take videos ,pictures among others.
Conclusion, Bwindi Impenetrable forest can be easily accessed both by Air and Road transport the choice of transport is in traveler’s hand but those who fear travelling long distances we advise you to book a domestic flight earlier before your arrival time in Uganda. Air transport lasts 1:30 hours and Road transport takes 9 to 10 hours’ drive.
