2 Days Dian Fossey Hike Tour
The 2 Days Dian Fossey hike tour is a short safari adventure that starts and ends in Kigali Rwanda. This tour will take you to Volcanoes National Park where you will be able to visit Dian Fossey’s grave and beautiful twin lakes. Dian Fossey was an American primatologist who dedicated her whole life to research and conservation of mountain gorillas with her favorite so called Digit.
She first lived in Virunga National Park of DR Congo before migrating to Volcanoes National Park Rwanda.
During the safari, you will hike to Karisoke Research Center where you will find Dian Fossey’s grave just near the gorilla cemetery.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Travel to Volcanoes National Park Rwanda
On day 1 of the 2 Days Dian Fossey Hike Tour, upon your arrival at Kigali Airport, our driver guide will pick you up at the Airport and brief you about the tour. You will start with a Kigali city tour where you will be able to take a visit to Kimironko market, the Kigali genocide memorial Centre and craft centers where you can buy gifts and many more.
After the city tour, drive for lunch in one of the excellent restaurants. After having lunch, start a driving journey to the Volcanoes National Park which lies in the northwestern part of the country. The journey to Volcanoes National Park takes about 2 to 3 hours with spectacular views of rolling hills, terraced farmlands, traditional homesteads and local people.
Upon your arrival in Musanze, proceed a drive to your booked lodge and check –in after which head out to the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera where you will have paranomic views of Virunga mountains, hills, fishermen fishing, local people transport their goods, different bird species. After a visit to the Twin Lakes, you will drive back to your lodge for relaxation. Dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Dian Fossey Hike and Departure to Kigali
On the 2nd day of the 2 Days Dian Fossey Hike Tour, after morning breakfast, you will take a hike to Dian Fossey’s grave with your packed lunch boxes, accompanied by our driver to drive you to the park headquarters for a simple briefing about the hike.
You will hike to Karisoke Research Center which lies between the mountain Karisimbi and Bisoke/Visoke. During hiking, you will pass through different vegetation zones where you will have a high chance to spot the park’s animals like elephants, forest hogs, duikers, various monkeys as well as different bird species.
Upon arrival at the Karisoke research center, you will be able to see the grave of Dian Fossey who was killed by unknown people on the 26th December 1985. Dian Fossey was buried near Digit her favorite gorilla.
After the visit to Dian’s grave enjoy your picnic lunch and then start descending to the starting point where you will find your driver guide ready to transport you back to your booked lodge and relax. You will start on your journey back to Kigali at either your hotel or Kigali International Airport for your flight departure.
