Gahiza Island Retreat
Gahiza Island Retreat is a mid- range accommodation found in the middle of lake mutanda ,Kisoro district south western Uganda . The lodge is situated 6km from Kisoro town and 10 minutes boat ride to the island. The lodge is in the perfect base for safari adventures to travellers and tourist especially bird lovers for gorilla tracking, gorilla habituation and golden monkey tracking in Nyakagezi sector in (the home of endangered mountain gorillas) overlooking the breathtaking views of the Virunga Volcanoes.
You can be at the lodge by road transport from Kampala to kisoro taking approximately 8-9 hours’ drive while from Kigali through kyanika borders it takes about 2-3 hours’ drive to the lodge and 2 hours flight from Entebbe international airport to the close kisoro airstrip/ 30 minutes to fly from Kigali international airport then an hour drive to be transferred to the lodge.
Gahiza Island Retreat consists of over 5 en suite spacious and elegant rooms overlooking the beautiful surrounding mountain ranges built in African traditional style with modern comfort .Rooms are well decorated , furnished and elevated on a wooden platform with privacy and tranquility where by each room have en suite private facilities that Include; flushing toilets and hot and cold running showers, beds wrapped with mosquito nets ,slippers extinguishers , free toiletries, complementary bottled water and other facilities .Rooms have wooden balconies , sitting areas and verandas to relax in while enjoying the breathtaking view of the island ,virunga volcanoes that includes; Muhabura, Sabinyo and mgahinga and surrounding areas. Rooms have Excellent and comfortable clean beddings with queen and king sized beds. There are bonfires where guests relax as they share stories about the safaris and it provides warmth to visitors in the nights. Rooms are in different categories and sizes with single beds for individuals, double/Twin beds for sharing as well as Triple and family rooms

Mgahinga national park is one of the smallest national parks in Uganda found in south western corner of Uganda, Kisoro district bordering Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The park got its name from local word Gahinga “the piles of volcanic stones cleared from Farm lands at the foot of Volcanoes the Park Covers the total area of 34km squared Famous for Mountain Gorillas that inhabits its dense forest for gorilla trekking activity and also a habitat for endangered golden monkey where Golden Monkey Tracking activity takes place. It also got the natural beauty of the 3 surrounding mountain ranges; sabinyo, mgahinga and muhabura ranges. The lodge is the close to Mgahinga national park Headquarters just 20 minutes’ drive.
