Amajambere Iwacu Community Camp
Amajambere Iwacu Community Camp is only budget safari accommodation at the park that lies at the main entrance of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park ‘Ntebeko gate’ and it is only 12 kilometers from the southwestern town of Kisoro. Visitors who visits the camp for their night stay can enjoy the spectacular views of the famous Virunga Volcanoes and take part in hiking adventure Mount Sabyinyo and Mount Gahinga ,trekking gorillas and golden monkeys. The camp lies at the perfect starting point for hiking the Virunga Volcanoes of Muhavura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour’s drive from the nearby town of Kisoro.
The camp consists of comfortable five bandas of which two serve as dormitories.
Amajambere Iwacu Community Camp sounds as the perfect place to be close to the forest of Mgahinga. Your pleasant stay at the camp, you can enjoy a night under a brighten starts and the scent of flower. Then, in the morning you wake up into your day-to-day activity to carry on such as Golden Monkeys, Gorillas or Climb volcanos.

Activities to do while at Amajambere Iwacu Community Camp – Mgahinga
Gorilla Tracking and Hiking
First of all, the camp is excellent location for overnight stay en-route to the mountain gorillas. Moreso, the camp is located right at the main gate of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park which is the starting point for gorilla trekking.
Gorilla trekking being the main key attraction and activity park, that attracts thousands of tourists to visit the park inorder to meet up with these unique gentle giants. Gorilla trekking starts early in the morning after your breakfast and be dropped at the park headquarters for briefing about the gorilla rules. After, park range guide leads you in search of a gorilla family and tracking can take about 30 to 7 hours, depending on where were last seen. Once you locate them, you will be given one hour to spend with gorillas – that one hour, you will be able to learn about their behaviours, feeding, playing and capturing videos.
Community Visit
The camp usually arranges a community visit, village walks and exploration of Ruhengu caves. You can be able to visit Batwa people known as the ancient people of the forest who used to stay together with mountain gorillas in harmony. Visiting the Batwa people, you can’t regret -you will be able to enjoy their tradition dance, stories and also practicing on how to prepare their tradition food.
Volcano Hiking of Mountain Climbing
This hiking adventure in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is quiet rewarding and can be done to one of the three Volcano Mountains found inside the park such as; Mount Sabinyo, Mount Muhavuru, Mount Gahinga. A hike done at Mount Sabinyo takes you toward a gateway to Rwanda and the Democratic Republic Congo while in Uganda, if you’re lucky and you hike to its peak you will enjoy a great sight of mushy vegetation around.
Note; Before climbing one of these three volcanos, your required to be in good physical shape, wear waterproof hiking boots, carry a lot of drinking water and energy giving snacks as well as light clothes.
Golden Monkeys Trekking
Fact, Golden monkeys are active creatures. The best way to encounter these unique species is engaging in Golden monkey tracking which can take about 4 hours per session during that time you are allowed the opportunity to view, take photo of the primates as they swing on different tree branches and the experience is rewarding.
