The park is a home of one habituated gorilla family called Nyakagezi which is available for trekking on a daily basis. A gorilla trekking permit is a card or document that is issued to any visitor above the age of 1 years allowing him or her to visit the habituated mountain gorillas. A gorilla trekking permit in the park is issued by Uganda Wildlife Authority a government body in charge of tourism and it costs 700 USD per person for foreign nonresidents, 600 USD per person for foreign residents and 250,000 UGX per person for East African citizens. The gorilla trekking permit is valid for one day and allows tourists to spend one hour in the presence of the mountain gorillas.

How to book a gorilla trekking permit in Mgahinga gorilla national park

A gorilla trekking permit in Mgahinga gorilla national park can either be booked directly through Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) by contacting them via telephone calls or email to check for permit availability. Air transport, when using air transport means to access Mgahinga gorilla national park, you will book scheduled or charter flights with Aerolink from Entebbe international airport or Kajjansi airfield to Kisoro airstrip and then connect to Ntebeko park headquarters  by road.

Road transport, when using road transport means you will drive from Kampala or Entebbe via Masaka, Mbarara, Kabale, Kisoro and then to the park headquarters which takes about 9 to 10 hours’ drive in a 4 WD safari vehicle.
