3 Days Mount Hiking & Gorilla Tour in Mgahinga National Park

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up in Kampala and transfer to Mgahinga National Park ‘’8 to 9hour drives’’

You will be picked up by our driver guide from the hotel in Kampala or Entebbe, the guide will brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Mgahinga National Park. Upon arrival in the park, followed by check in the lodge for dinner and overnight. Dinner and overnight stay at Lake Mulehe Lodge

Day 2: Hike Mount Sabinyo

You will connect to the park headquarters, after your delicious breakfast, with your packed lunch box, and enough mineral water bottles to keep you hydrated throughout the hike. You should not forget to wear appropriate hiking shoes, a cap, sunglasses, and long-sleeved attire but light and others.

After the briefing, you will start the hiking experience. The hike to the summit can take 8 hours depending on the climatic condition and other factors. The summit stands at an elevation of about 3,645 meters above sea level. As soon as you get to the top of the mountain, expect to enjoy panoramic view of a caldera and an amazing view of the neighboring volcanoes within the park, spend some time. After, go back to the lodge. Have dinner and overnight stay at the lodge as above.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga National Park

After a sumptuous breakfast, you will carry a packed lunch from the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to drive you to the park headquarters for a briefing about Gorilla dos and don’ts.

After the briefing, meet the guide to allocate you to your assigned gorilla family. You will be accompanied by the park ranger in search for mountain gorillas which takes about 30 minutes to 6-hour drive, depending on the movement of gorillas in their natural habitat. As you trek, expect to view other primate species like I’hoest monkey, chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys as well as various beautiful birds among others.

Once the mountain gorillas are located you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which offers you a great chance to observe their habits, and behaviors, watch gorillas feed, breastfeed, groom young ones, take photos and capturing videos for your future remembrance. After the one-hour encounter with the gentle giants, you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will be rewarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking. Thereafter, drive out of the park and drive back to Kigali. Arrive in the evening and be dropped off at Kigali International Airport for your departure flight or drop off at any place of advice.
