When is the best time to visit Murchison Falls National Park?

Murchison Falls National Park is perfectly visited all year round but December to February is considered the best time to visit the park. Then June to September is another great window to visit.

Throughout these months there can be less rainfall, which means the tracks leading you to wildlife during your game drives remains dry.

The dry season attracts range of animals to water sources thus making it easier to watch them while out on game drive.

When is the dry season?

The dry season falls tend to happen between December to February and from June to September. During this time, there can be much sunshine and less rain.

The park is equatorial meaning it is hot throughout the year. The temperature experienced ranges between 25 -32 degrees Celsius during the day and drops down to 18degres Celsius.

Between January and February, the temperature can be spectacular for the safari, so we recommend you to wear light clothing and carry plenty of water and sun cream.

When is the wet season?

The wet season falls between July to November and from March to May. During this time of the years the landscape is rewarding.  Fact, Murchison Falls National Park is located in a very dry part of Uganda, so it is very rare for the rain to interrupt your safari. Although, the roads to safari destination could be hard to travel on during this period.

During wet season wildlife tend hide away because of the heavy rain.  If you’re interested in chimpanzee trekking, we can’t recommend you to do it in wet season because the trekking trails can be slippery thus making it difficult to hike in thick forest.

Heavy rainfall tends to fall in April, May and August through to October.

High and Low season

The high season falls between June to September, as there’s   less rain and lower temperature which can’t interrupt your safari.  This can be peak season for gorilla trekking safaris and other activities like chimp tracking, wild game viewing. So there ‘s many tourists on Uganda Safari.

During the period of June and July, there’s high competition of accommodation, thus recommending you to book a lodge in advance of your trip.

 The low season tend to occur from March to May and October to November.  During this time, you can get lodges cheaply because in heavy rainfall at Murchison some lodges can be closed due to bad weather.

The low season offers less competition for accommodation, meaning you can book a lodge even at last minutes.

The best time to see wildlife in Murchison Falls National Park is December to February.

For chimpanzee tracking is best experienced from the month of October to January, due to the grass being short and fruits in plenty for these species.

Travelers interested in birding; we recommend you to visit during the wet season in during the wet season. In the month of March to May where you can be able to spot variety of bird species.
