Bwindi Gorilla Sectors Uganda: Bwindi Impenetrable national park is a popular safari destination in Africa for mountain gorilla trekking, located in the southwestern part of Uganda at the edge of the rift valley. Buhoma Sector

This sector is one of the four gorilla sectors found in Bwindi Impenetrable national park, located in the northern side of the park. Buhoma sector is the most visited area of Bwindi compared to other sectors. Buhoma was the first sector to be officially opened for tourism, it started with one gorilla family which was habituated in 1992 after the area gazette into a national park. Buhoma is just close to Queen Elizabeth national park which can be easily accessed through Ishasha sector a home to the famous tree climbing lions, as a best way for travelers to have a chance of adventuring the tree climbing lions, in Far East and South.

Buhoma has an admirable history behind, from the first group of travelers to tour the area when it had just open for tourism. The region offers beautiful lodges ranging from Luxury to Budget, provide delicious food and sleeping services are suitable to travelers. It also has first class lodge that makes it the main reasons for most of the travelers to trek in Buhoma sector. Lodges in Buhoma include; Buhoma lodge, Bwindi view bandas, Mahogany springs, Bwindi Volcano lodge among others.

Buhoma can be easily accessed from Kampala-Mbarara road –joining Mbarara –Ntungamo –Rukungiri –Buhoma. Other option is to fly from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip to Kihihi Airstrip.

This sector has 24 Gorilla permits issued daily in the three gorilla families with permitted number of 8 people per trek per day.

Ruhija Sector

Ruhija sector lies in Eastern side of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with number of gorilla families which are habitant here, Bitukura, Kyaguliro family, Oruzogo family all trekked by the tourists. The region stands 2,350 meters above the sea level making it one of the coldest areas in Bwindi. Ruhija sector offers the best mountain gorilla trekking adventure and hiking which can be done to Rwamunyonyi peak on your visit never miss to reach out this area. While trekking in Ruhija expect to meet other species of primates like monkeys, elephants among others. The region has comfortable accommodation suitable on visit to Bwindi not only that but also providing a life changing view with critically endangered mountain Gorillas.

Nkuringo Sector

Nkuringo Sector is located at a higher altitude and it requires one to be physically fit. It is a home to Nkuringo family and Bushaho gorilla family where gorilla trekking takes place. There are many accommodations in Nkuringo to offer has your choice of stay.

Rushaga Sector

This sector is found in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable national park, inhabiting five gorilla families fully habituated. They include Bweza, Nshongi, Kahungye, Mishaya and Busingye but two are put aside for Gorilla habituation experience such as Bikyingi and Bushaho are still undergoing through training that takes 1 to 2 years while training these mountain gorillas to get used to humankind.

You can still engage in cultural visits to the Batwa community walk and birding like on visit to Rushanga region.

Gorilla permits are at cost of USD 700USD non-foreign residents, USD600 foreign resident and UGX 250,000 for East African member. And we advise our clients always book your gorilla permit in advance like six months before your time of arrival on pearl of Africa Uganda. Gorilla trekking starts early in the morning after morning breakfast then be transferred to the park head quarter for briefing. After meet the park ranger to locate you to the gorilla family you’re to trek on that very day. But ensure to carry your items like rain jackets, rubber boots, energy snacks, enough mineral work, packed lunch boxes many more. Please note that, gorilla trekking is unpredictable it can last 30 to 8hours depending on their movements in the nature habits. The moment you find them; you’re given one hour to observe them learn about their social life as well as photo taking.

The minimum age limit for Gorilla trekking experience is 15 years of age and those one below the 15 years are not allowed to trek these critically endangered mountain gorillas.
