Entebbe Botanical Gardens

Entebbe Botanical Gardens : These gardens lie within walking distance from Gately Inn Entebbe accommodation.   However, they were created in 1898 and are home to over 320 varieties of exotics plant species and an abundance of birdlife and mammals. Botanical gardens are a beautiful rainforest zone that was used in the original ‘’Tarzan’’ film in 1940. More so, a beautiful place for watching notable bird species, various monkeys, spotting tree species among others.

Monkeys you expect to see include Colobus and Ververt monkeys among others. The garden is also home to various species of birds including; African Open-billed stork, Black headed Gonolek, Black-headed herons, Common Squacco, Hammerkop Long Tailed Cormorant, Orange weavers, Red-chested sunbird, Verreaux’s eagle owls, Yellow billed duck, Giant and pied kingfishers. Entebbe Zoo;

The Entebbe zoo lies within walking distance from Gately Inn in UWEC which is a Centre for breeding, recuperation and rehabilitation of Ugandan animals that have been rescued from poachers and illegal traders. These animals are set free into the wild when possible by UWEC who also work hand in hand to educate the people of Uganda about the importance of our local animals and conservation. Animals to see includes; Giraffes, White Rhinos, wild cats –leopards among others.

Mabamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary

 Mabamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is home to orphaned chimpanzee which was founded by Jane Goodall in 1998 this island is a refuge for over 45 rescued chimpanzees. Other various options for trips to and experiences on the Island – packed lunches can be supplied on request.

Mabamba Swamp sounds as one of the top places in Uganda to watch the highly sought –after shoebill in its natural habitat. They are regularly featured on tourism brochures in appealing the rare birds with their pre-historic features and oversized yellow bill. Birding here is achieved by a canoe ride, where you ‘all navigate waterways composing lily pads and papyrus swamp.  Notable bird species to see includes; Papyrus yellow warbler, Pallid harrier and blue swallow among others.

Half day trips can be arranged to visit the Entebbe Mabamba Swamp and surrounding Island in search of the most sought after shoebill stork. Visit Mabamba Swamp and be able to explore the beauty nature around as well as do bird watching experience.

Entebbe Golf Course;

This fantastic game course is playable all year round. Fact, the club features with two tennis courts, one basketball court and a cricket oval. Indoor games include badminton, darts and snookers.

Visit the beaches;

Entebbe as a powerful town surrounded by water, it has got the most popular beaches in Uganda. Some of the beaches includes; Sports beach, Lido beach, White sand beach, Aero beach, Imperial resort beach and Spena beach many more. Fortunately, hotels and resorts in Entebbe have their own beaches like Anderita and Botanical beach hotels. On weekends, these beaches are always full of revelers from Kampala and others nearby towns. On visit to one of the of the hotels, expect to find revelers swimming, drinking and dancing to loud music playing in the background. Some resorts organize boat cruises on the lake shifts for the revelers.
