How to book Uganda gorilla trekking permits 2021-2022: A gorilla trekking permit is a document issued by Uganda wildlife Authority (UWA) that allows visitors above the age of 15 years to visit a habituated gorilla family in either Bwindi impenetrable national park or Mgahinga gorilla national park. Gorilla trekking is one of the most famous activities in Uganda and it’s done in two destinations that is Bwindi impenetrable national park and Mgahinga gorilla national park.
Cost of a gorilla trekking permit in Uganda
A single gorilla trekking permit in Uganda costs USD 700 for foreign non residents, USD 600 for foreign residents and UGX 250,000 for East African citizens. A gorilla trekking permit in Uganda includes one hour with the mountain gorillas, services of a park guide, park entrance fees, your security and services of gorilla trackers.

There are two ways of booking gorilla trekking permits in Uganda for example booking through Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) by contacting the head offices in Kampala through email or telephone calls. Uganda gorilla trekking experience
Gorilla trekking is an adventurous activity that involves visitors walking deep into the forest in search of the endangered mountain gorillas and once found spend one hour with them in their natural habitat. Gorilla trekking in Uganda is done in two national parks that is Bwindi impenetrable national park which is known for harboring the highest number of mountain gorillas and Mgahinga gorilla national park both located in southwestern region. Apart from Uganda gorilla trekking is also done in other destinations like volcanoes national park in Rwanda, Virunga national park and Kahuzi Biega national park in Democratic Republic of Congo.
Gorilla trekking activity starts very early in the morning with a briefing from the park guide about the rules and regulations to follow during trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated a gorilla family to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with trails in the jungle. During trekking you will be able to view other primate species like l’hoest monkeys, chimpanzees, variety of bird species, colorful butterflies, different plant and tree species among others. Once the mountain gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them which gives you a chance to take photos, record videos, learn about their behaviors, watch them feed, breastfeed, play among others.
Uganda also offers gorilla habituation experience where the wild gorillas are trained to get used to human presence for trekking. The habituation experience takes a period of 2 to 3 years to be complete and it’s only done in Rushaga sector southern part of Bwindi impenetrable national park. Just like gorilla trekking gorilla habituation experience starts in the morning with a briefing at the park headquarters where after you will join a team of researchers, scientists, park guides among others and start trekking in the jungle. Once the mountain gorillas under habituation process are found you will be allowed to spend four hours with them in their environment which helps you to monitor their habits, behaviors, learn about their lifestyle, watch them carry out their daily activities among others. Visitors who want to engage in gorilla habituation experience are required to purchase a gorilla habituation permit which costs USD 1,500 per person for foreign non residents, USD 1000 per person for foreign residents and UGX 750,000 per person for East African citizens.
