Kasubi Tombs

Kasubi Tombs is well known as a great World Cultural Heritage site in Uganda for the Buganda Kingdom. A place where four kings were buried and a great place to learn more about Buganda’s history. These tombs were constructed in a circular shape in the year 1882 and also other members of the Buganda royal family are meant to be buried here. It consists of 26 hectares of land and it was built using traditional techniques by the royal family members. Thus making it an interesting place to visit while on your Kampala city tour.

Namugongo Martyrs Shrine

This is an amazing place where thousands of people from different races of the world come to gather for annual ceremonies every 3rd of June. More so, this is a place where 32 martyrs were killed between 1885 and 1887 by Kabaka ‘’king’’ Mwanga of Buganda in Uganda and 13 of 22   of the Martyrs were burnt to death at Namugongo.

The building of Uganda Namugongo Martyrs shine started in 1967 at Namugongo and it was finished after 8 years. Then on 3rd. In June 1975 the shrine was officially opened by Papal Envoy ‘’His Eminence Sergio Cardinal pignedoli.

National Museum

The National Museum – Uganda museum is renowned as the oldest museum in East Africa it started in 1908, located in Lugard’s fort on old Kampala Hill then it was transferred to Makerere University at the School of Industrial and fine arts and later on it was shifted to its permanent place ‘’Kitante Hill where it is positioned till today. The museum attracts a lot of historical things that were collected by stone age men. The collection is displayed two traditional cultures and Uganda Music with all kinds of history, musical instruments, archaeology, science, and natural history. The Museum is one of the top tourist attractions on the Kampala city tour, which displays things of the old and also gives you the real picture of Uganda and its people.

Visit Cathedrals

There is Rubaga Catholic cathedral and Namirembe protestant Cathedrals each built on the hill where visitors take to visit the great view of the building which accommodates over 10,000 people and it welcomes all visitors from different regions, those on safari. Visit Uganda and take a visit to one of the two attraction sites.

Kampala Central Mosque

The Kampala Central Mosque is famously known as the National Mosque which was gifted by the Muslim community in Uganda by Colonel Muammar Gaddafi of Libya, it was completed in 2006 and officially opened for prayers in June 2007. However, it accommodates up to 15,000 worshippers and provides other seats in its gallery over 1,100 people, whereas the terrace caters to another 3,500.

Today, the Mosque acts as the head office of the Uganda Muslim Community and supreme council and a comfortable place to visit.

Baha’i Temple

The Baha’i temple is the oldest and is referred to as the mother temple of Africa.  In 1961 after its completion, this building was named the tallest building in East Africa.  The Baha’i faith began to increase in 1951 and later on about 500 Bahia’s in 80 localities joined including 13 Baha’i Local Spiritual Assemblies and several people were represented by 30 tribes in Uganda.

The Baha’ijj region has got specific days in the week for gathering but the Baha’i people do not have specific days to gather they just decide a day, they should meet every week, and the Baha’i temple in Uganda they gather every Sunday of the week.

The temple is visited by many people from Uganda and it has beautiful compounds with cool breath for relaxation and a beautiful natural environment many more.

Independence Monument

The independence monument was built in the days when Uganda was celebrating its first independence on 9th October 1962 and it was funded by the British Colonial government. It is located on Speke road and Nile Avenue in Kampala City bordering the fences of Sheraton Hotel gardens, overlooking the Grand Imperial Hotel on the right and opposite Standard Chartered bank. On a visit, you’re advised to carry your memorable pictures.

Ndere Cultural Centre

This is a gorgeous cultural site to visit during your relaxing hours in the evening where you can visit and get excited about the amazing traditional dance as you enjoy a drink.

Ndere centers represent over 60 groups of people and over 30 indigenous languages ‘’a summary of Uganda Culture and tribes’’. However, the official language used around is English and Kiswahili.

If you’re planning to visit the place for the live performance – tends to open on Wednesday and Friday at 7:00 pm and Sunday at 6:00 pm. You will be able to watch the amazing music and dance of the Ugandan tribes with Ndere troupes performing at the Centre.

Kabaka’s Palace

The Kabaka’s Palace was built in 1885 by Ssekabaka Mwanga 11 when he has just taken over the dominion in 1884 at age of 18 years old. This is a rule to every new king to choose a hill where to construct his palace ‘’Nkaawo hill’’. As we talk the palace is named Mengo palace where several visitors pay a visit to some of the attractions like; The torture chamber where Idi Amin Dada used to torture hundreds of people in one cell filled with water and connected with electricity. These torture chambers are still there to act for study purposes and tourism.

 The Kabaka’s palace is renowned as a manmade lake in Uganda which was dug by Kabaka Mwanga with the help of the official men. And his aim to dig this lake was to connect it to Lake Victoria the second-largest lake in Africa. The lake covers an area of around 2 square Kilometers and measures about 200 feet deep and the water level is constant throughout the year. The lake was dug or constructed between 1885 and 1888 by fifty-two ‘’52’’ clans of the Buganda Kingdom during the regime of Ssekabaka Mwanga 11.

Location; Kabaka’s Lake is located between Ring Road and Nabunya Road in Ndeeba Rubaga Division which is 5 kilometers away from the Kampala City Centre.

Nakasero Market

The Nakasero Market lies in the middle of the Kampala capital on the foothill of Nakasero. This market acts as a tourist attraction on Kampala City Tour. It is located 50 meters away from Entebbe road.

This market was set up in 1895 when the king of Buganda was advised to set up the first market in the palace. After 10 years, the market was transferred to Kagugube which sits between Sir Apollo Kagwa Road and Gaddafi Road. Currently, it locates on Nakasero hill. On your visit to the market, you will have great sights of fresh vegetables, fruits, and many different spices.
