Rushanga Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park Uganda : Rushaga sector acts as a tourist destination among the four sectors found in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest national park that is Buhoma, Nkuringo, Ruhija and Rushaga sector. Note that, gorilla trekking is unpredictable can take 2 to 7 hours depending on their movement within the forest. Once you meet them one hour is given to observe these endangered mountain gorillas on how they feed, play, behaviors, habits, learn about their lifestyle as well as picture taking.

Rushanga sector is a home of more than 8 habituated gorilla families and only 64 gorilla permits available on sell in single day. Gorilla Habituation Experience ‘’GHX’’

Gorilla habituation experience in Bwindi Impenetrable national park can be conducted only in Rushanga sector. This is the process where mountain gorilla is first put under training to get used to human presence, a process that takes for about 2 to 3 years to be completed. Gorilla habituation experience starts at 8 :00am after briefing, then meet the range guide who will group you in number of 4 individuals accompanied by the team of park rangers, researchers, doctors who will share information about mountain gorilla as you collect their samples in the forest.

How to reach to Rushaga Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park


Rushaga sector is one of the four premium gorilla trekking sector found in Bwindi located in the southern part of the park and it is approximately 9 to 10hours drive and 1:30 hours flight has means of transport.

Air Transport.

Visitors fly from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airfield to Kisoro or Kihihi airfield by a domestic flight Aero Link Uganda which operates scheduled and chartered flights daily, then connect to the park headquarters by the car.

Road Transport

Travelers can still access Rushaga sector right from Kigali ‘’Rwanda’ ’which takes 3 to 4 hours’ drive via Cyanika border in Kisoro. Compared traveling from Kampala to Rushaga which takes about 9 to 10 hours’ drive. Road transport may seem to be a long driving journey but the most rewardable one with spectacular views of the Virunga Mountains, Country side and scenic land scape of tea plantations, banana plantation are much memorable.
