Gorilla trekking is done at an altitude of 2500-3000 metres, meaning the air will be thinner and the demands on the lungs greater. In Bwindi Impenetrable National Park a primary gorilla trekking destination Uganda ,it’s terrain is mountainous and vegetation is thick -for that matter hiking requires some stamina.
Therefore, it is impossible to estimate the hours it can take. Some gorilla group can be allocated within 30 minutes and others can take about 6 hours or even more before finding a habituated group. Tourists who are interested in doing Gorilla trekking, should be well prepared to work for it.

If you know that you’re not energetic enough to be part of Gorilla trekking -we recommend you to hire porters they are available, old people who can’t hike can be carried on the sedan chairs charged a small fee, hiking sticks or you join groups that are doing easier and shorter treks. Having porters carry a sadden chair this adds to the cost of the trek, but can be a really helpful air for those who may need it.
Another option, those who are worried about the difficulty of the terrain, we advise them to visit gorillas in the dry season, which runs from June to September and December to February, as the ground can become very muddy during the wet season. Take note, during the wet season -rain clears away the dust in the air which makes photographers to have clear photos.
Taking part in the Gorilla Habituation Experience, is another gorgeous activity where you can observe gorillas for four hours instead of one hour, is often more physically demanding than the standard gorilla treks. Though, gorillas who are still under habituated can take longer to track down, as they are shyer and more wary of human contact.
Gorilla trekking experience is unpredictable, time varies from day to day, depending on where the gorilla has settled, as well as on how many clues they have left behind. The amount of time spent trekking could be between 30 minutes to several hours.
Meanwhile, the time taken in trekking can be tiring but all in all more worth of it. You catching a glimpse of a wild gorilla deep in the forests of Bwindi feels particularly good when you have worked to get there .The challenge of the hiking into deep thick vegetable looks easier to manage if you come well prepared ,with perfect gears such as; Good hiking boots ,comfortable clothing ,a rain jacket ,a hat ,gloves ,insect repellents and sunglasses all that are recommended ,other things to carry ;enough bottled mineral water ,energetic snacks ,eats and a nice camera.
