Uganda Wildlife Authority Roles : Uganda Wildlife Authority refers to a semi-autonomous Ugandan government agency that aims to manage, and conserve all Uganda national parks and wildlife reserves. More facts, Uganda Wildlife Authority ‘’UWA’’ is instructed to ensure sustainable management of wildlife resources and supervise wildlife experience in Uganda, both within and outside the protected areas.

Moreover, Uganda Wildlife Authority is Uganda’s government agency responsible for the management and protection of wildlife safaris in and outside protected areas that manages ten national parks, twelve reserves, and fourteen wildlife sanctuaries. It is also meant to provide guidance for over five community wildlife areas.

Uganda Wildlife Authority is appointed by the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, and its headquarters are positioned along the Kira Road in the neighborhood of Kamwokya town, in the Central Division of Kampala Uganda’s capital city. More to that, the Uganda Wildlife Authority headquarters is permanently located between the Uganda Museum to the west and the British High Commission to the east, along Kira Road a few meters away from Kampala city.

Historically, the UWA- Uganda Wildlife Authority was created in August 1996 by the Uganda Wildlife Statute, which integrates the Uganda National Parks Department with the Uganda Game and Fisheries Department. Then in 2000, the statute turned into an act of parliament and later on in 2019 was amended into the Uganda Wildlife Act.

Uganda Wildlife Authority was established to set up prices for the activities in the park. And the money invested supports the conservation area to sustain the wildlife and promote tourism tomorrow.  Such as; A gorilla trekking permit is quite costly compared to other permits because gorillas are endangered species and require much time for research and protection. The fee paid for lion tracking helps in the research of these carnivores.

This government tourism agency also promotes public participation in the conservation of wildlife species. More so, UWA helps in protecting the wild animals in the parks, encourages the locals from destroying vegetation, and teaches future generations.

Uganda Wildlife Authority promotes public participation in conservation through Community programs that as acted in the improvement of conservation as well as eradicating poverty.
